The Pirate & Seafood Festival is excited to partner with the Space Coast Basket Brigade at this year’s event. They will be collecting food donations at the front gate and hosting a kids activity area at the festival at no charge.
About the Space Coast Basket Brigade
Our organization, the Space Coast Basket Brigade, is dedicated to supporting families in need during critical holiday food gaps. For the past fourteen years, we have been making a positive impact in our community through two major events: the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade and the Hope Filled Holiday Brigade.
During the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, we come together as a community to support families in need and ensure they have a bountiful and memorable Thanksgiving meal. Collaborating with over 75 organizations within Brevard County, we identify families who may be struggling during the holiday season due to financial hardships. Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to collect donations and assemble baskets filled with all the essential items needed for a complete Thanksgiving feast, including a turkey or ham, stuffing, potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and a delicious pie for dessert. Alongside the food, we include handwritten notes of encouragement and kindness, spreading hope and love to these families.
On the day of our Thanksgiving Basket Brigade event, volunteers gather to pack and distribute the baskets to families in need. It is a heartwarming experience to witness the smiles and gratitude of these families as they receive these baskets of hope and nourishment. The event is filled with a sense of unity, compassion, and giving as we make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
In addition to the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, we also organize the Hope Filled Holiday Brigade to bring joy to over 500 children in need during the holiday season. We provide essential items and gifts, such as shoes, socks, undergarments, school outfits, toothbrushes, toiletries, and specific items for teenagers like chargers, disposable cameras, and hoodies. These donations of toys and other essential items play a significant role in making the holidays special for these children and families.
Furthermore, as part of our efforts, we organize an afternoon of Santa Pictures and experiences for each of the children we sponsor and their families. This special event allows them to enjoy experiences they typically wouldn’t get the opportunity to have, bringing smiles to their faces and creating lasting memories during the holiday season. We also offer resources and support to the parents, providing them with much-needed assistance and kindness.
We believe that everyone can make a difference, regardless of their age or background. Hosting a drive or collection to gather these items is a great way to get involved and support our cause.
